This Drakensberg Slack Packing Trail is a luxury hiking trail offering comfortable and varied accommodation for each night including luggage transfers, guide, conservation fees and delectable catering. Trails consist of small intimate groups of max 6 persons. This is a three-day hike through the Lowlands Conservancy and the Zulu Waters Private Game Reserve. The hike is gentle in distance making this hike perfect for beginners and families. The lodges offer three course dinners from locally grown ingredients with hearty breakfasts and picnic lunches are supplied.
The first lodge is Antbear Lodge and what makes this lodge special is that it also offers a luxury cave for accommodation. Its an upmarket eco experience and is a hugely sustainable tourism product. We have an organic vegetable garden, own cows for milk and chickens for eggs. We bake our own bread and even make our own cheese.
2nd night is at Leopards Lair Lodge which offers an authentic agri-tourism experience in a lovely family atmosphere where you can meet their whole farmyard menagerie.
The 3rd night is at the luxury 5-star private safari Lodge in the Zulu Waters Game Reserve. Complete with your own private chef.
There is an alternative route where you spend 2 nights in the game reserve and instead of leopards lair lodge and this is proving to be a very popular option.
Otherwise we can also customize trails to be longer or shorter depending on your requirements and budget available
There are options to extend your stay at any of these lodges with opportunities like our star gazing hammock camp where a local villager tells his traditional folk law stories of the night sky, guided rock art tours, butterfly tours, abseiling, horse trails inside the game reserve, hot air balloon flights launching directly from the lodge and a visit to the Giants Castle Vulture Hide are also huge reasons to extend your stay.
