Drakensberg Pet friendly attractions might initially seem difficult to find. The National Parks will not allow entry with pets and the bulk of the accommodation places are not keen either. This pet friendly guide to the Drakensberg and Natal Midlands will help you navigate this and give you a few great pet friendly options of days out.   • Walking Trails at Antbear Lodge – Antbear Lodge is one of the most special petfriendly places in the Drakensberg. Beautiful, vast views of the Drakensberg with plenty of ground for dogs to roam off the leash. Walk for hours. Your dogs will be happy with lots of dams to swim in and horses to discover.
  • The Bierfassel is a quaint Austrian themed pub that serves hearty meals, catering for all tastes. Let the children play in the kids’ activity area while tasting our Bavarian, Austrian and Midlands country fare. The pub offers over 35 different beers from around the world, including our very own local draught beers from Nottingham Road Brewery. Pets are welcome as long as you sit outside which is where you want to be anyway.
  • The Windmills Kitchen – Loads of different types of food styles in a food court like setting, plus space to run around for your pets.
  • Jaxx Restaurant Hilton – Located at the Quarry Centre in Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal, you can visit for a cappuccino, a tasty meal or dessert along with your furchild.
  • Walking at Karkloof Falls – Karkloof is a spectacular waterfall just about 15km from Howick of which about 5km is a reasonable dirt road. The falls is not directly accessible but a small partially hidden pathway from the car park gives you a beautiful view. The picnic area is relatively small but airy. You can bring your braai. This is one of those places that don’t officially offer pet friendly options but nobody will bother you here if you bring your dog either.
  • Cattle Paths – offers a number of walking trails and a little pizza restaurant between Estcourt and Weenen. The trails can be walked or mountain biked and pets are welcome too.
  • Dragon Peaks – offers camping where you can also take your dog. Day visitors also welcome. Lots of hiking and walking opportunities but dogs do need to be on a lead. They are also welcome at Dragons Rest Restaurant if you want a bite to eat.
  • Piggly Wiggly a restaurant in the Natal Midlands together with lots of arts & craft outlets is an ideal family stop. You can visit here with your children and keep them entertained, as well as your four-legged children. If you pop by on a Saturday nice and early you can do the Park Run too.
  • Walking Trails from Sani Backpackers Lodge – allows pet friendly visits to do a lovely 5km of the Giants Cup trail.
  • Kenmo Lake – has a beautiful picnic area and you and take leisurely strolls around the lake with your dogs.
  • Lemon Tree Bistro – in Underberg is pet friendly although there are no walking options here
  • Stonehouse Kitchen – in Himeville offer a pet friendly restaurant. This is what you hope for, when you make a stop in a small village. Friendly service, lovely food and a tranquil atmosphere in in the lovely garden
