Sustainability and responsible tourism are a huge part of the ethos of our lodge. We cook all our meals from scratch and have our own organic vegetable garden. We have our own chickens for eggs, cows for milk and bake our own bread and we even make our own cheese.

Hiking Trails with various degrees of difficulty to choose from are offered on site, as well as in the Drakensberg national park called the Giants Castle Nature Reserve, proclaimed a UNESCO “World Heritage Site”. Giants Castle, offers some of the most scenic and dramatic Drakensberg Hiking trails in South Africa. What makes Giants Castle so attractive is that you park your vehicle at an elevation of 1850m. That’s about 500 meters higher than Royal Natal, Cathedral Peak or Monks Cowl which means less effort. Its clear the higher you hike the better the views..
Horse-riding is offered, with a guide, a wonderful way to take in our spectacular scenery, we offer the rider between one hour to three hours guided out ride on the farm.
We also offer a stargazing hammock camp where a local villager tells you his African folktakes of the night skies. In winter he prepares the hammocks with blankets and hot water bottles. As you settle in to the sounds of the night he begins with tales of how the sun and moon got into the sky and why the sky is so far away. This is a rural storytelling experience that is a unique cultural exchange.
Mountain-bike-trails on site provide a challenge for all serious and casual riders. The Antbear Lodge trails forms part of a slack packing trail that connects a number of Drakensberg lodges in the area. Explore the Drakensberg region and Midlands Meander, a driving experience to be enjoyed with family and friends.
